Outside Westminster – Bristol & Newport

Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats today visited Bristol and Newport on the latest leg of his Outside Westminster tour. Bristol – SETSquared centre and Bristol Port 10.00 Nick arrives at the SETSquared Research Enterprise & Development centre to see the work being undertaken there. SETSquared is a partnership between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey. It is the largest government-funded, privately-backed support programme of its kind in the UK. 10.55 At Bristol Port, Nick Clegg is met by Terrance Mordaunt, Chairman of the Bristol Port Company for a tour of the port and it’s wind energy facilities. Nick is joined by Graham Watson MEP, Paul Harrod PPC for Bristol North West, Kay Barnard Prospective MEP for the South West and Councillor Gary Hopkins. Nick launches the ‘Green Bond‘ scheme in Bristol, the scheme is aimed at allowing people to invest in environmentally friendly firms. Newport – Coleg Gwent, Newport 12.25 Nick Clegg arrives at Coleg Gwent Newport City’s College. He is met by Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, College Principle Howard Burton, Gary Handley, Campus Director, Ian Hembrow, teacher at the college, Ed Townsend the PPC for Newport East. Nick visits the college’s building workshops and lays bricks with students and Kirsty Williams. He is then shown a plumbing class in session seeing students testing appliances. In the building work shops, Nick Clegg officially launches the European Elections campaign in Wales.
